Clinical Expertise and Special Interests

I feel it is important to develop a working relationship with my patients so I can truly get a feel for how their symptoms are affecting their quality of life. I find it most fulfilling to coordinate specific treatment plans and goals for each patient which include physical, mental and emotional health in order for them to maximally improve and reach their goals. I have a special interest in neurological and movement disorders, as well as spine care and other orthopedic conditions.

What is Maria Joseph's background and training?
Maria Joseph is a physical therapist at Neuroscience Group's Appleton location. Her Exercise Physiology undergraduate background provides a foundation in human movement science, physiology, and functional performance that complements her clinical DPT training. She is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, the Wisconsin Physical Therapy Association, and the APTA's Orthopedic and Neurology Sections — dual section membership that reflects her active clinical engagement with both orthopedic and neurological physical therapy practice. The concussion program affiliation on her page also reflects her involvement with the Summit Concussion Clinic at the Appleton location.
What certifications or licenses does Maria Joseph hold?

She is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association at both the national level and through its Orthopedic and Neurology Sections, reflecting ongoing engagement with current clinical standards in both specialty areas. What does Maria Joseph do at Neuroscience Group?
Maria is a physical therapist at Neuroscience Group's Appleton location, providing physical therapy evaluation and individualized treatment for patients with neurological, movement, spine, and orthopedic conditions. She takes a relationship-first approach to each patient — investing time to understand how their symptoms are actually affecting their quality of life before developing a treatment plan — and integrates physical, mental, and emotional health considerations into every plan she creates. Her concussion program affiliation also positions her to support patients in NG's Summit Concussion Clinic program, working alongside the concussion-focused physicians at the Appleton location.
What conditions does Maria Joseph treat or help rehabilitate?
Maria has a special clinical interest in neurological and movement disorders as well as spine care and orthopedic conditions. In a neuroscience practice setting, this means she regularly works with patients managing conditions such as Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, post-stroke rehabilitation, and other movement disorders, alongside patients recovering from spine surgery or managing chronic back and neck pain. Her dual APTA section membership in both Orthopedic and Neurology reflects the breadth of her clinical engagement across both the orthopedic and neurological domains of physical therapy.
What is Maria's approach to patient care?
Maria believes that the most effective physical therapy is built on a genuine connection with each patient as an individual. She takes time to develop a working relationship with patients so she can truly understand how their symptoms are affecting their daily life — not just the clinical presentation, but the full picture of what they are dealing with physically, mentally, and emotionally. From that foundation, she creates treatment plans with goals that are specific, meaningful, and realistic for that person. Her deepest satisfaction comes from working collaboratively with patients toward those goals, and she values the one-on-one relationship of physical therapy as an opportunity to tailor care in a way that actually reflects what each person needs and wants to get back to.
