The Neuroscience Group of Northeast Wisconsin has a .8 full-time position for a Licensed Practical Nurse-Radiology. This position typically works 4 days/week with Fridays off. The Licensed Practical Nurse for Radiology will perform a variety of patient care duties to assist the technical staff in the Radiology Department. This position will also perform a range of venipuncture techniques in the collection of blood specimens from patients for laboratory procedures used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.

The Licensed Practical Nurse shall work within a team environment with staff and physicians under the supervision of the Team Leader of Imaging.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supports and promotes the mission and strategic vision of the organization.
  • Supports and promotes the ideal patient experience and brand building basics.
  • Provides prompt, courteous assistance regarding the needs of our patients and their families, visitors, and the public.
  • Transports patients to and from various areas of the clinic as needed.
  • Confer with patients to obtain information for laboratory records, explaining procedures to calm fears and elicit cooperation.
  • Administers medications by preparing medications for specified procedures.
  • Assists with preparing patients for MR exams by reviewing medical history and safety screening forms.
  • Assists technical staff with MRI and Special procedures prep and starts IVs.
  • Provides technical assistance by assisting with movement of patients to and from radiographic tables.
  • Monitors medical status of patients, i.e., takes vitals following procedure and provides general care needs promptly.
  • Present during procedures and assists in basic patient care under the direction of a physician.
  • Notifies physicians, nurses, radiology staff and/or family members of any change in patient’s health and provides proper documentation.
  • Refers questions to registered nurses and physicians/providers per scope of practice guidelines and relays information back to patient as directed.
  • Performs a variety of routine blood draws, as well as venipuncture techniques using standard equipment including vacutainer tubes, sleeves, tourniquets, syringes, and butterfly needles.
  • Prepare, process, label and store patient specimens and samples according to department procedures using standard techniques and equipment.
  • Enters patient data in Epic for radiographic procedures and confirms images are in PACS.
  • Schedules patient appointments as requested.
  • Utilize standard procedures to protect patient identification and record appropriate collection information on proper requisitions.
  • Cleans assigned work area and equipment. Stocks recovery rooms and laboratory area with supplies, including clean linens. Disposes of any soiled laundry.
  • Perform all other temporary and/or permanent duties as assigned by the Team Leader of Imaging.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS POSITION:

  • Graduate/Successful completion of an accredited LPN School of Nursing Program
  • Current Licensed Practical Nurse license issued by the state of Wisconsin
  • Experience with phlebotomy
  • CPR certified
  • Basic computer knowledge and keyboard skills. Epic & PACS knowledge helpful.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to develop rapport and maintain positive, professional relationships with a variety of patients, staff and physicians.
